CHS Dessert Theatre - 'Just So' review

Posted: November 29, 2007

The excitement was high and the laughter was contagious as 34 CHS students performed the musical “Just So” over four nights in the annual CHS Dessert Theatre (November 14-17). This musical (written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe) is based on the short stories of Rudyard Kipling and thus represents truly classic literature. The audience was invited to join a menagerie of unique and wonderful animals as they discover how much we have in common and how our differences can enhance the lives of those around us while we learn how to adjust to being comfortable in the skins God gave us. The musical proved to be a huge undertaking and therefore involved a significant number of the CHS staff as well as community members.

The large cast gives the advantage of allowing a breadth of participation, but also brought challenges especially in the area of costuming/makeup. Two months of a heavy rehearsal schedule was worth it all as the capacity crowd on Friday night responded with a standing ovation. It’s certain the catchy tunes will be ringing in the halls of CHS for some time to come.
