Dean of Women

JOB SUMMARY 

The Dean of Women helps oversee student services, student development, student residences, and on-campus activities in collaboration with the Dean of Men and the Student Development department. Their duties include supporting female students in all areas of academics, housing, community life, and spiritual life.  The Dean of Women provides leadership, supervision, discipline, and administrative oversight to all aspects of the female college experience. The Dean of Women provides informal counselling, shepherding/pastoring, teaching, leadership, programming, and direction to the female Residence Directors, Community, and Student Teams; these may include Residence Assistants, Student Government, or community coordinators.  This is a full time position. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum Bachelor degree, however a Masters in a field relevant to student life is preferred.
  • Criminal Record Check submission and clearance.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Possessing good interpersonal and relational skill.
  • Ability to work well and lead within a team environment.  
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate events such as chapel, social events, leadership training, etc.

Heart/Passion: The successful candidate will have a heart for the importance of Student Development work and a firm conviction of the importance of our intentional community in educating, equipping and facilitating student’s’ growth and maturity.

Previous relevant experience is beneficial.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

1. Student Team Development

  • Be involved in the interviewing and hiring of all Student Development staff including Residence Directors, admin assistant and chaplain who will assist the dean of women in the duties of dorm leadership and student care. 
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings bi-weekly with student development staff and weekly with student leaders in your care.
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, direction, and mentorship of RD’s.
  • Conduct joint meetings weekly with your entire RD/RA student leadership team.
  • Select, interview, and hire a full complement of RA student leaders for the residence(s) under your care each spring (for the following year).
  • Help set culture and a yearly spiritual theme.  
  • Equip/empower student leaders to fulfill their responsibilities by facilitating good communication and providing advice, training, and direction as needed.
  • Provide oversight, evaluative feedback, and accountability to the student team.
  • Identify and provide direction to small group leaders in collaboration with your RA team 

2. Training Responsibilities

  • Help plan, organize, and lead Student leader training week (End of Aug)
  • Help plan, organize, and lead the bi-weekly Friday Student Leadership Team meetings.
  • Train and equip new student RA’s

3. Leadership Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between student departments and institution administrators
  • Update and review department working procedures, budgets, policies, and institutional goals annually
  • Assess female student body needs and respond to any questions or concerns in an effective and timely manner
  • Provide proactive leadership and structure to ensure the mission and vision of education that disciples are being realized
  • Provide student support on issues related to student services, institutional policies, and department processes
  • Conduct consistent department evaluations to ensure quality student services and a culture of care are being realized 

4. Mentoring Responsibilities

  • Weekly check-in with the student development team and student leaders for prayer, spiritual accountability, encouragement, and care
  • Choose or develop and implement a curriculum to facilitate growth in academics, leadership, and spiritual development with the SD team and Student leaders

5. Communicational Responsibilities

  • Weekly updates of college activities to RDs, student teams, etc. 
  • Semester Calendar of events planned, updated, and communicated weekly
  • Weekly email to Briercrest staff of upcoming events and encouragement 

6. Other 

  • May be asked to serve on committees (ex. Discipleship, appeals, etc.)
