Summer Program Activities Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY

This July, Briercrest is hosting a summer English language program/camp for a group of Korean high school students from Wanbang School in Harbin, China. As the Activities Coordinator for our 5-week EAL (English as an Additional Language) Summer Program, you will play a vital role in organizing engaging weekend excursions and weekly activities for our students, as well as overseeing the day-to-day schedule of the program. Your creativity, attention to detail, and passion for cultural exploration will contribute to creating a memorable and enriching experience for our participants. The activities coordinator will be needed from June 24th- August 3rd, 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience coordinating activities or events for diverse groups, preferably in an educational or cultural context.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness, with an appreciation for diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Valid drivers license to drive school vehicles and 15 passenger vans.

DESIRED OUTCOMES AND ACTIVITIES

  • Organize weekend excursions to local attractions, cultural sites, museums, parks, and other points of interest, ensuring activities are educational, fun, and culturally enriching.
  • Oversee a diverse range of weekly activities and events designed to enhance students' language learning experience and promote cultural exchange, incorporating themes such as arts and crafts, cooking, sports, music, and drama.
  • Coordinate transportation, accommodations, tickets, and reservations for excursions and activities, ensuring smooth logistics and timely communication with students, staff, and external vendors.
  • Manage the budget for program activities, monitoring expenses, negotiating discounts, and maximizing resources to provide high-quality experiences within budgetary constraints.
  • Create and maintain the day-to-day schedule of the program, including class times, meals, recreational activities, and free time, ensuring a balance between academic instruction and leisure opportunities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during excursions and activities, conduct risk assessments, implement safety protocols, and provide supervision as necessary.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation, collaboration, and cultural exchange, promoting camaraderie and friendship among participants.
  • Coordinate a team of volunteers to assist with program activities and excursions, assigning roles and responsibilities, providing guidance and support, and fostering a collaborative and positive volunteer experience. Provide ongoing communication to ensure volunteers are prepared and motivated to contribute effectively to the program.
  • Communicate regularly with students, program staff, and external partners to provide updates on program activities, distribute schedules and itineraries, and address any concerns or inquiries.

TEAM RELATIONSHIPS

The Activities coordinator will report to Angela Lim, Director of International Students. They will oversee a small group of volunteers who will be assisting with the implementation of the programing.
