Edmonton, February 22nd, 2017 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) congratulates Briercrest College Clippers Head Coach, Nolan Weinmaster, on being named the 2016-17 South Division Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. This prestigious award was presented to Weinmaster at the 2017 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Conference Championship Banquet held on February 22nd at Lakeland College.

Weinmaster has helped grow the women’s volleyball team consistently since taking over the reigns in 2006-07, in particular the last three years where the team established program best records each season, improving to 15-5, 18-6. 19-5 and finally this year 20-4. Weinmaster’s team led the ACAC with 11.21 kills/set, 10.80 assists/set and shattered their own ACAC record with 349 service aces this season (the old record set in 2014-15 was 281). Their 4.06 aces per set was also a new ACAC record. The team also ranked fourth in the ACAC with 1099 digs. The team also led the ACAC with 1434 points.

Briercrest Athletic Director Nigel Mullan is proud of what Nolan has established with the women’s volleyball program.

“Nolan has consistently worked tirelessly in how he prepares his team for their season,” Mullan explained.  “Week in and week out he makes sure his team is prepared physically, mentally, and emotionally.  He is consistently an example of what a post-secondary coach should be like in how they prepare their teams.”

This is Weinmaster’s third nomination in four years, and fourth overall (he was selected in 2009-10 and again in 2013-14 and 2014-15). Weinmaster is a graduate of Briercrest where he was team captain and the most valuable player for the final three seasons of his playing career at Briercrest, and was named to the ACAC All-Conference Team for the 2005-06 season - his final as a player.

He was hired as the head coach for the Briercrest women's program that fall and has been working ever since to improve the team and his coaching abilities.

Weinmaster has worked closely with the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association over the years, coaching 18U and 16U Saskatchewan girls’ teams as well as leading the co-ed volleyball portion of the Briercrest Sports Camp each summer.
