Briercrest hockey fall victim to the Kings’ reign

Posted: November 25, 2016

Briercrest started off the weekend with a fast-paced game that really could have gone to either team. Briercrest and the Red Deer Kings began the game with a scoreless first period that gave a glimpse of the very quick game to come. Briercrest led in shots 16-14, showing determination to start off strong right as the puck dropped. Red Deer College started the game off with an aggressive edge with three penalties and Briercrest with only one.

Two minutes and ten seconds into the second period, the Kings took the lead 1-0 with a shot from the point and a good screen in front by Blair Mulder, with assists to Ben Williams and Trevor Costello. Briercrest fought back hard, especially putting on the pressure in the last minute of the 2nd period. Unfortunately, the Kings played aggressively throughout, and fought Briercrest off and the period ended with the score still at 1-0.

Briercrest came back ready to fight for the win by starting off the 3rd period with a goal from Tristan “Hermansauce” Hermanson over the pad on the left side with assists from Dan Stollery and Arlyn Semeschuk. Red Deer answered the call, which made the score 2-1 for the Kings. Dan Dekoning was pulled out in the last minute where Briercrest showed an intensity that couldn’t be matched but they were unable to get the goal that they needed to tie it up. Even with the strong play that Briercrest brought tonight, they came up just short and ended up losing 2-1.

Briercrest’s Player of the Game went to goalie, Dan Dekoning for fighting hard and keeping the game close. Briercrest will play the Red Deer Kings again tomorrow to end the weekend, giving them a chance for redemption to show their true skill.
