Briercrest bats come alive in pair of losses to Calgary teams

The Briercrest women's softball team's bats came alive at the end of their 11-4 loss to SAIT and carried the strong hitting into the 14-6 loss to the University of Calgary.

After being down 11-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning against SAIT they had three runs in the inning but fell one run short of extending the game into the sixth inning. Makenna Martin and Jessica Bailey each had two hits on three at bats to lead Briercrest at the plate. Laura Vogt pitched all five innings for Briercrest and had three strike outs and six earned runs in the 11-4 loss.

Briercrest's bats continued hitting strong to begin the second game of the double header, building 2-0, 3-2 and 6-3 leads before the University of Calgary exploded in the fourth and fifth innings with five and six runs to take the game 14-6. Laura Vogt hit two for three at the plate, seven Briercrest batter got on base and 14 Briercrest players were involved in the game. Makenna Martin pitched 4.1 innings and Alexis finished the last two outs of the fifth inning.
