Cox brings strong bat and experience to Briercrest Softball

Abbotsford, BC product Jenna Cox brings years of experience to the Briercrest softball team for the 2016 season.

Cox started playing softball at a young age and has played for several different teams since.

“When I first started playing at age 11, I started at the house level,” Cox explained. “I played for the Abbotsford Bandits for approximately five years of my house career, where we always came out on the top of our league until 2012 when we went to provincials and got smoked in the finals and came out with second in the province.”

“Shortly after this year, I started playing for the Abbotsford Outlaws B team in my last year of high school which was a very different experience that helped me grow in ways I never could on a team that always came out on top,” Cox continued. “After falling in love with the Outlaws, the minor team then ended (as there were no junior rep teams in Abbotsford) and we all had to part ways. After playing rep for a year, my heart longed for more competition and more growth so I began to play for the Ridge Meadows Rage Junior Women's B team and found a little bit more of the competition that I found in the Outlaws and stayed on that team for a couple of years. Winning second in provincials in 2012 with the Bandits was a large accomplishment for me after so much battling throughout the season to finally see some result, even if it wasn't a gold medal. In my 2015 season I walked away with seven home runs throughout the season and two MVPs throughout that season as a first baseman which also helped me to strive after more in my softball career, and fall even more in love with the game.”

Briercrest Softball head coach Carlie Pagens is excited to have Cox join her team this fall.

“I am excited for the opportunity to coach Jenna this fall,” Pagens explained. “She brings a strong bat to our roster with a history of hitting the ball hard and contributing offensively at key times.  Defensively, she is a strong infielder who is confident in several positions. Jenna has a sincere love for the game and passion to integrate faith and sport. I am excited to see the ways that Jenna will contribute to our team both on and off the field.”

Cox is excited to come to Briercrest this fall.

“I'm looking forward to so much about coming to Briercrest,” she explained. “After going to bible school in Austria for a semester last Fall, I am constantly wanting to learn more and more about the Word and going to Briercrest gives me so many opportunities to do so. I'm so excited to be within such an amazing community of believers and athletes, and to also play softball with those who will also play for the Lord - all striving toward one common goal, which is His glory.”
