Briercrest defeats King's; to play Humber for CCAA bronze this afternoon

The Briercrest Clippers advance to the bronze finals of the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship for the first tiime in program history after defeating the King’s University Eagles 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 26-24).

The second ranked Briercrest only needed four sets to win the match against the fifth ranked Eagles.

The first set started intense, with both teams giving it there all, but it was King’s who jumped out to an early lead. They held onto the lead, and escaped a late charge from the Clippers, to win the set 25-19.

Briercrest rallied after the first set loss, and came out in the second and third set ready to play. They won both sets 25-23 and 25-21.

In the fourth set, Briercrest gained an early lead and never looked back for most of the set. Until, King’s University started battled back, to close the gap and tie the game at 18-18.

A late push from Briercrest was all they needed, as they held off the Eagles, and took the final set 26-24.

Player of the game for Briercrest was Kathleen Bruce, who 10 kills to go along with four digs.

Taking home the honours for King’s was Lauren Jensen, who had two kills and five digs.

Next game for Briercrest will be at 6:00 pm AST where they play against the Humber Hawks in the bronze finals.That is 4:00 pm in Saskatchewan.
