Reinhardt, Bruce and Zacharias named 2015-16 ACAC South Team All-Conference
Briercrest had a trio of Briercrest women’s volleyball players, in Mikayla Reinhardt, Kathleen Bruce and Samantha Zacharias, who were recognized as ACAC South division All-Conference players at the ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Banquet at Red Deer College Wednesday night.
Fifth-year graduating outside hitter Mikayla Reinhardt led Briercrest with 226 digs (eighth in the ACAC South), and ranked second on the team with 245 kills (seventh in the ACAC South), fourth with 22 service aces (15th in the ACAC South) and had five blocks and nine assists. Her 1035 career regular season digs ranks her second all-time in the ACAC to former Briercrest teammate Brooke Peterson. Her 948 kills ranks her fifth all-time in the ACAC.
The team captain has helped grow the women’s volleyball program each season that she has been at Briercrest. The team’s record has improved from 6-14 her rookie season to 8-12, 15-5, 18-6 and finally a program high 19-5 this season. For the first time in program history, the team is first place in the ACAC South standings and was ranked as high as number one in the CCAA rankings. She hopes to lead the program to even greater heights in the playoffs.
The Strathmore, AB native is graduating with a BA in Humanities this year.
Second-year middle Kathleen Bruce led Briercrest with 46 blocks (third in the ACAC South), and third with 156 kills (11th in the ACAC South) and 42 service aces (third in the ACAC South). She also had six assists and 84 digs.
Bruce has helped the Briercrest women’s volleyball team set all-time records for wins each of her seasons at the college.
The Emerald Park, SK native is in the Certificate of Biblical Studies program.
Along with being selected as a All-Conference member, third-year outside hitter Samantha Zacharias was also named ACAC Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year for the second year in a row.
Zacharias led the ACAC with aces with 74, and points with 389. She was ranked second in the ACAC and third in the country with 305 kills. She also ranked second on Briercrest with 212 digs (17th in the ACAC), and had six assists and 10 blocks.
Zacharias has helped the women’s volleyball team set program records for wins each season she has played at Briercrest.
The Waldheim, SK native is studying in the BA Business Administration program.
