Mens basketball battles hard in final home game against Lethbridge

Briercrest men’s basketball played their very last home game of the 2015-2016 season in the Hangar. For their final game they took on the Lethbridge Kodiaks.

The game started off with both teams scoring back-and-forth making for an intense close start to the game. Lethbridge then picked up their momentum and started to pull ahead from Briercrest. Briercrest continued to work hard to not let the gap increase too much. The first quarter ended with a score of 25-19 for Lethbridge.

The second quarter started off with a bang by Ben Kornelsen making a slam-dunk. Briercrest called timeout at 21-30 to try and kill Lethbridge’s momentum before they increased their lead. Lethbridge kept up their momentum though, causing pressure to be put on Briercrest. Briercrest called timeout again at 26-44 to try and re-strategize. Briercrest ended the quarter similar to how they started it by Christophe Towells making a shot at the buzzer.

The second half of the game started off with high energy once Kornelsen blocked a guy from making a slam-dunk. Briercrest then continued to work hard to try and not fall further behind and to try and close the gap. Briercrest ensured they didn’t fall further behind by making key defensive and offensive plays such as 12 rebounds and eight assists. The third quarter ended with a score of 69-48 for Lethbridge.

Briercrest came into the final quarter of their home season ready to finish strong. Briercrest worked hard and showed their resilience by battling hard till the end. They took a timeout at 57-84 to try and re-strategize and close the gap. They continued to make good offensive and defensive plays. When the final buzzer rang in the Hangar for the last time this season, the score was 91-63 for Lethbridge.

Ben Kornelsen was awarded Player of the Game by Brittany McNevin who works in the Briercrest Enrolment Department. Kornelsen had two assists, 15 points and a game high of one block. Josh Klassen also had a game high of one block. Ethan DaSilva had a game high of 10 assists along with Zak Tamlin having a team high of 20 points.
