Excellence with Humility- Briercrest bids farewell to star forward Taylor Epp
Fans at Barkman arena will miss the offensive brilliance of graduating forward Taylor Epp, just as his teammates will feel the loss of his professionalism and leadership.
Taylor's artistry on the ice springs from his smooth skating and gifted hands. He is arguably the best one-shot scorer in the league, and his excellent vision on the ice furnishes his passing and playmaking prowess. With six games remaining in the season, Epp is tied for fourth all-time in goal-scoring and points for Briercrest.
Taylor is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, and looks forward to making use of his education in the business world. He would like to continue to be involved with hockey in some way.
"I still have a passion for the game and would like to give back in some capacity, whether it be coaching or something," says Taylor.
Epp will be remembered as one of the most skilled players to ever don the navy and gold, yet he would be the last one to broadcast that fact. His humble nature is unmistakable, both in the understated manner in which he acknowledges his accomplishments and his approachability off the ice.
"Epper is a great teammate," says captain Josh Dufresne. "He demonstrates that through his care for his teammates and his drive to succeed evidenced by his work ethic to be his best for the team."
Taylor talks about some of the fond memories he has in his time here.
"The first thing that stands out on the ice is in my first year winning in SAIT," he explains. "What made that win extra special was we hadn't won yet that year and they had a great team- we went there missing a bunch of people... and beat them Friday night. It was amazing, the feeling in the dressing room... I have been privileged to play with the best group of guys over the years."
Briercrest is proud to have had Taylor as part of the hockey program. His sportsmanship and class have been a credit to the team, and his ability has delighted fans and will be difficult to replace. Briercrest wishes him every success in his future endeavours.
