Zacharias continues to lead Briercrest to new heights

Leftside and co-captain of the women’s volleyball team, Sam Zacharias demonstrates great leadership and exudes lots of confidence on and off court.

As a player complete with focus and vision, she has a competitive drive that makes her “love to win and hate to lose”. She tries to be the best she can be every single day while continuously challenging herself to use her abilities to glorify the Lord.

Coach of the women’s volleyball team, Nolan Weinmaster, was a huge part in Zacharias’ decision to come to Briercrest. The other part was the opportunity to play the sport she loves with a bunch of girls who love the Lord. She is in her third year and is looking to graduate with a business degree. Afterwards, her plans are pretty broad and open to whatever the Lord calls her to do.

True to Sam Zacharias, in her own words, her time at Briercrest has been “pretty unreal.” And, the team this year is pretty unreal, too.

“What is special about the team is the fact that every single girl on the team cares more about the person next to them than they do about themselves,” she explained. “[They] have each other’s backs. You can’t find that anywhere else.”

The team has seen great success and faced many learning opportunities with Zacharias as a key player leading the way. Earlier this season she helped lead the team to their first CCAA number one ranking in program history and once again is leading the CCAA in kills.

We wish her and the women’s volleyball team continued success as they finish out the season.
