The Briercrest volleyball teams return to Caronport to host Olds College this weekend. Men’s hockey travels to Lac La Biche to play Portage and the basketball teams enjoy a bye weekend before continuing their season next weekend.

Volleyball

The Briercrest volleyball teams return home to host Olds College this weekend. The Briercrest men’s volleyball team (6-12) is ranked sixth in the ACAC south, and a victory over ACAC South cellar dwellers Olds (1-15) will go a long way in helping them get into the playoff picture. Olds is coming off their first victory since their inaugural 2012-13 season.

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team (14-4) are currently in first place in the ACAC South standings, and ranked number six in the CCAA national rankings. They will be hosting ACAC South third place Olds College (11-5). Women’s volleyball plays at 6:00 pm on Friday, January 29, followed by the men. Play continues on Saturday with the women at 1:00 pm and the men following.

Hockey

The Briercrest hockey team travels on their second longest road trip of the season this weekend as they travel to Lac La Biche to play Portage College. Portage (8-8-6) are currently in seventh place and one point out of the final playoff spot in the ACAC. They will play Friday, January 29 at 7:00 pm, followed by a 1:00 pm puck drop on Saturday. Briercrest fell to Portage in two close games in October and hope to reverse the scores in Alberta this weekend. The ACAC hockey standings are very tight this season, so every game is important and has playoff ramifications.

Basketball

The Briercrest basketball teams will have a bye weekend before their final four weekends of the season. They will host St. Mary’s next weekend, Feb. 5-6.
