Briercrest Women’s Basketball had a rematch against SAIT for their second game of the weekend in Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium.

The game started off with SAIT taking an early lead. SAIT kept up their high defense making it hard for Briercrest to score. Briercrest then called timeout to strategize and to try to close the gap. Kristin Grasmeyer sunk a free throw to put Briercrest on the board. Charity Mbugua then continued to add off that by sinking a basket and a free throw.

Early into the second quarter SAIT called timeout to calm down the team. After the timeout SAIT continued to carry their momentum. Briercrest stayed mentally strong though and didn’t allow SAIT to pull further ahead. Both teams were scoring back-and-fourth making for a tight second quarter. Hannah Klassen then sunk a three-pointer to give Briercrest some more momentum.

Briercrest came into the second half not ready to give up and built off their new momentum. Briercrest started to close the gap a bit and then called timeout. After their timeout they continued to work hard and chip away at the score. They moved the ball around the court well and made hard shots under the net. Briercrest out scored SAIT in the third quarter by scoring 21-13 points.

The final quarter started with Briercrest not ready to give up. They continued to chip away at the score but SAIT saw this and then regained their own momentum again. Both teams continued to make hard shots but then SAIT soon started to out score Briercrest. When the final buzzer went the score was 83-59 for SAIT.

Sara Karuth was awarded Player of the Game by Briercrest’s Youth Ministry Professor, Ken Moser. Karuth had 2 assists and 7 rebounds along with team highs of 15 points and 2 steals.
