Briercrest women’s volleyball came into Saturday’s afternoon match looking to sweep Medicine Hat College and to hold onto their first place spot in the ACAC South conference standings.

Briercrest defeated Medicine Hat in three increasingly intense sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-22).

Saturday’s match started off with both teams ready to go resulting in an intense close start to the game. Briercrest soon ramped up their game allowing them to pull ahead. Medicine Hat called a timeout to recuperate but Briercrest came back even stronger. With Briercrest increasing their lead, Medicine Hat felt the pressure and called timeout again at 16-10. Briercrest kept a comfortable lead until the end giving them a set win of 25-17.

The second set started off similar to the first set, with both teams rallying back-and-forth. Briercrest then pulled ahead once again causing Medicine Hat to call timeout at 10-5. Briercrest continued to maintain their lead forcing Medicine Hat to take another timeout at 16-10.  Medicine Hat came back with more energy and started to close the gap. Unfortunately for Medicine Hat, their energy couldn’t pull them ahead allowing Briercrest to win the second set 25-19.

Medicine Hat came into the third set with newfound momentum. Briercrest started to fall behind after both teams rallied back-and-forth for a bit. After moving the ball around the court well, Briercrest was able to close the gap. Medicine Hat saw Briercrest’s resilience and called timeout to try and maintain their lead. Briercrest wasn’t ready to give Medicine Hat a set win so they called timeout at 16-13. They came back ready with new momentum and were able to gain the lead. They carried their small lead to the end of the set giving them their third win with a set score of 25-22.
