Mens basketball defeats Ambrose for first home game win

Briercrest men’s basketball plays Ambrose College this weekend.

Both teams came on the court ready with high energy making for a good start to the game. With both teams making key defensive and offensive plays, the score was close with the teams just a couple points apart from each other. Near the end of the quarter Ambrose took a small lead ending the quarter with a score of 22-16.

Briercrest came into the second quarter ready to battle. They tied up then both teams battled for the lead. At 35-35 Ambrose called timeout to re-strategize and hope to take the lead. With great defense, Briercrest was able to hold Ambrose off and end the first half with a score of 36-35 for Ambrose.

Briercrest tied up the score quickly to start off the second half of the game. Both teams battled hard making the leading team switch back and forth. With Briercrest capitalizing on foul shots and making amazing defensive plays they were able to take the lead. Ethan DaSilva sunk a far shot at the buzzer to further extend Briercrest’s lead and getting the fans and players fired up. The third quarter ended with a score of 60-55 for Briercrest.

With the score close and time running out, both teams felt the pressure in the final quarter. Ambrose took the lead back but not for long. Briercrest battled hard throughout and gained a steady lead. With five 3-pointers made by Briercrest, two from Zak Tamlin, Briercrest continued to stay ahead. The fans and players kept the energy up with cheering after every great play. Once the buzzer rang, Briercrest claimed their first home win of the season with a score of 86-75.

Zak Tamlin was awarded Player of the Game by Briercrest professor Wes Olmstead. Tamlin had game highs of 25 points and three blocks and three 3-pointers. Tamlin also had 11 rebounds, an assist and one steal. Julian Apakoh had a game high of 13 rebounds along with Ethan DaSilva having a game high of eight assists.

Briercrest dominated in the stats category with 67-42 rebounds, 20-19 assists, and 6-1 blocks. Ambrose had 10-4 steals.
