Known for her fearless courage and positive demeanor, Abigael Klassen (#15) provides energy and leadership on the floor in her role as starting point guard for the Briercrest women’s basketball team. An all-round athlete in high school at Yale Secondary, Abigael was awarded Female Athlete of the Year in her senior year.

Arriving in Caronport on the heels of two older siblings who also happen to be basketball players, Abigael was drawn to Briercrest by the opportunity to grow in her Christian faith while pursuing the sport she loves best. She was particularly impressed with the impact Briercrest had on her older brother.

She enjoys the practical training and challenges of the TESOL program but her favourite moments at Briercrest remain playing hoops with her older sister Hannah.

“It was especially great to come as a freshman last year and play with Hannah in her comeback year after her ACL injury,” she says with a gleam in her eye. “It’s exciting to see us both grow together.”

Reflecting on the special nature of her team, Abigael views this year as a wonderful fresh start for the program.

“Coming together with a group of girls who want to glorify God through their play,” she explained.

She particularly appreciates how each of the girls brings their own unique personal contribution to the squad.

Abigael’s academic goal is to maintain the best GPA possible as a student.

On the court, her motto is, “I am no longer a slave to fear but I’m a child of God.”

Abigael wants to be able to look back at her time at Briercrest with no regrets and no opportunities squandered because of fear.

As a player, she is known for her speed and positive energy, possessing an almost Tigger-like personality and presence. She is a strong defender who rotates well and reads the passes of the offense.

After Briercrest, Abigael’s ultimate dream would be to eventually pursue a dual career as a nurse and a teacher of English in an impoverished community someplace overseas. She would love to be able to help improve the quality of life for those in need so they can better provide for their own families. Regardless of where the Lord leads her, she desires that her life path will provide opportunities for her to help people in need and share her Christian faith.
