Marmot Basin/Hostelling International Jasper ACAC Athletes of the Week

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of the Lethbridge Kodiaks, winning 3-1 both days. Third-year outside hitter Sam Zacharias was a huge contributor to Briercrest’s success as she had an enormous weekend attacking and serving! Zacharias had 13 kills and 8 service aces, for 21 points in 4 sets on Friday night to earn Player of the Game honors. Not satisfied with that, she went into beast mode on Saturday, putting up 23 kills and another 4 service aces for 27 points in 4 sets! She also made a strong contribution defensively with 20 digs in the two matches and also passed very well on serve receive with an average of 2.40. Altogether, Zacharias averaged 4.5 kills per set on the weekend, to increase her league-leading season average to 3.7 kills per set! She averaged 1.5 aces per set to also increase her league-leading total to 0.9 aces/set!

Zacharias is in the BA Business program at Briercrest, and has been a fantastic leader on and off the court for the Briercrest team again this year, taking on a role as one of the team captains, and helping establish a great culture amongst the young team.
