Women’s Volleyball brings energy to the court in four set win

Briercrest’s women’s volleyball takes on Lethbridge College this weekend.

In an intense four set match Briercrest women’s volleyball beat Lethbridge to win their first match of the weekend Friday night (25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 26-13).

Both teams came into the game strong making for an intense start to the set. After each team rallying back-and-forth Lethbridge started to pull ahead. Briercrest started to battle hard and took the lead causing Lethbridge to call time out. With Briercrest’s great defensive plays and hard work, they were able to maintain the lead and win the first set 25-16.

Lethbridge came into the second set recharged. With the set being tight, energy and intensity was running high on the court. Lethbridge started to pull ahead but Briercrest battled hard. With the score tied at 12-12, Lethbridge called timeout. Lethbridge came back reenergized giving them the lead. Briercrest fell behind a few points and were unable to come back giving Lethbridge the second set with a score of 23-25.

Briercrest came into the third set ready and strong by taking an early lead. They kept the ball moving around and hit the ball hard. Lethbridge felt the pressure and called timeout at 16-10 looking to gain momentum. Briercrest stayed strong though carrying them to the end of the set giving them a set score of 25-16.

Briercrest carried their momentum forward into the fourth set and took another early lead. Lethbridge took a timeout at 16-9 for Briercrest. With Lethbridge unable to close the gap, Briercrest won the fourth set 25-13 giving them the match win.

Sam Zacharias was awarded Player of the Game by Loree Buck. Zacharias had 7 digs along with game highs of 13 kills and 8 service aces. Ashley Zacharias had a game high of 37 assists along with Kirsty Kindrachuk having a game high of 14 digs. Janae Rapley had a team high of one block in the match.

Briercrest dominated in the stats category with 46-20 kills, 38-19, assists, 22-5 service aces and 57-46 digs. Lethbridge had 5-1 blocks.
