Brett Lafond is a tough competitor with scoring touch

Posted: November 7, 2015

Third-year forward Brett Lafond plays a tough style of hockey that entertains fans and creates the space to be a top offensive threat.

Brett is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities program at Briercrest, but hockey was the major draw for him.

"What brought me to Briercrest was the hockey program," says Lafond, "I wanted to further my hockey career and learn more about how hockey and Christianity can fit together…"

An eager competitor, he talks about his personal approach to the game.

"I always love stepping on the ice and being with the boys… The role I have on the team is to try to be a veteran presence as a third-year; I like to joke around a lot and see smiles on the guys’ faces. I also try to contribute offensively and be defensively minded."

Brett joined Briercrest after a successful junior career in the MJHL with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines, and has consistently been among the top scorers on the team. He possesses a rocket of a shot that has left at least one hole in the net, and he's immune to intimidation by any opponent. Asked about a highlight in his time here, he points to a recent drubbing of the SAIT Trojans.

"To see all the guys come together and work for one another, it was a great feeling and an even better experience to be part of."

Brett will take hockey as far as he can, and would like to pursue his dreams in the pro leagues after his studies are complete. Briercrest is proud to have Brett on the team and wishes him every success in the future.
