Women’s Volleyball
After three weeks of ACAC competition Briercrest women’s volleyball is ranked number one nationally in CCAA National rankings. This is an important milestone for the program as it is the first time that the program has been ranked number one in the nation. Their early season highlight was a sweep of two-time defending CCAA champions Red Deer College this past weekend. They hope to continue building momentum and recognition nationally as the season progresses. They will be attempting to build on their record of 4-2 as they travel to Ambrose this weekend.
“It is a nice honor for our girls to be recognized for the hard work they have put in to build our program to the level of being a consistent contender over the last few years,” head coach Nolan Weinmaster said. “There are many young women who have given a lot over the years, and we have alumni who should definitely share in the honor of this first-ever achievement for the Briercrest women’s volleyball program, as they have built a foundation for this year’s team to build off of.”
“It is a nice honor for sure, and certainly there are many teams in our division alone who would be deserving of this ranking right now,” Weinmaster continued. “Overall, we are grateful, but ultimately, it is just motivation for us to keep working hard to improve so that we can hopefully be a contender with the top teams at the end of the year. We have such a long way to go to become that type of team over the next few months, but I am excited to see our progress so far. We have a great bunch of athletes that want to learn and keep growing as volleyball players and leaders of character, so I am excited for what is ahead too!”
“All the attention and any glory that comes from these types of things – we just want to reflect that back to God who gives us the ability to even learn and be physically active and enjoy a sport we love to play. Anything good we have in our lives is from Him, and the truth is, no achievement of any sort in this world will ever compare to the joy and hope we have because of Him! We just want to hopefully bring glory and honor to Him as we train and compete as a team in the months ahead, and learn and grow as much as we can!”
