Mens Volleyball battles hard but falls to Red Deer in three

Briercrest Men’s Volleyball played Red Deer College this afternoon for their second match of the weekend.

Briercrest lost all the sets in the match against Red Deer, but with close scores (19-25, 21-25, 25-22).

The game started off with both teams battling point-for-point. Red Deer soon started to pull ahead though, causing Briercrest to call time out at 8-11 for Red Deer. Red Deer maintained their lead giving them the first set with a score of 25-19.

Red Deer carried their momentum over into the second set giving them an early lead. Briercrest felt the pressure and took a time out at 14-8 for Red Deer. Briercrest chipped away at the score but was unable to catch up. Red Deer took the second set with a score of 25-21.

Briercrest, looking for a set win, came into the third ready and making it a tight set. Both teams were battling point-for-point until Briercrest pulled ahead. Red Deer battled back and then started to take the lead. With Red Deer leading 21-18, Briercrest took a time out. Briercrest battled hard but were unable to pull ahead, allowing Red Deer to win the match.

Taylor Klassen was awarded Player of the Game by Briercrest’s men’s basketball head coach, Gradyn Childerhose. Klassen had one service ace and four digs along with a game high of 13 kills. Brad Harms and Calvin Sawatzky had a game high of two blocks along with Carter Reimer having a game high of two service aces.

Red Deer took the lead in all stat categories with 42-25 for kills, 37-23 for assists, 41-26 for digs and 5-4 for blocks. Both teams had four service aces in the match.
