Women’s Volleyball sweeps Red Deer for the weekend in three

This afternoon Briercrest women’s volleyball played against Red Deer College looking for another win.

After three intense sets Briercrest’s women’s volleyball swept Red Deer 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23).

Briercrest came into the first set strong as ever giving them an early lead. Red Deer started to close the gap a bit but then fell further behind. With Briercrest’s amazing defensive plays, Red Deer was unable to catch up giving Briercrest their first set win with a score of 25-17.

Briercrest took a huge early lead to start off an intense second set. Red Deer started to feel the pressure when Briercrest was leading 10-3. Red Deer came back strong and started to close the over 15-point lead. Briercrest called time out once Red Deer started to catch up with a score of 17-23. Red Deer wasn’t able to catch up though, giving Briercrest their second set win of the game with a score of 25-18.

Both teams came into the third set ready making it intense and close. Both teams were battling point-for-point until Red Deer started to pull ahead. Briercrest called for a timeout with a score of 15-12 for Red Deer. Briercrest battled back and both teams started battling point-for-point once again. Briercrest was able to pull ahead and win the set 25-23 giving them the game win.

Janae Rapley was awarded Player of the Game by Briercrest’s women’s basketball head coach, Dwight Olney. Rapley had a game high of 12 digs, five service aces, and one block. Rapley also had eight kills and one assist in the match. Ashley Zacharias had a game high of 33 assists along with Mikayla Reinhardt having a game high of 15 kills. Reinhardt, Rapley, and Sam Zacharias all had a game high of one block.

Briercrest dominated in the stats by winning in every category. Briercrest had 42-22 kills, 37-21 assists, 7-0 service aces, 61-48 digs and 3-0 blocks.
