Briercrest mens volleyball battled hard in tight five set loss against SAIT

Briercrest men’s volleyball battled back and forth with SAIT Saturday afternoon, in fact scoring more points in the five-set match, but lost 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 21-25, 32-30, 14-16).
Briercrest came into the game with high energy. With the score being close throughout the set, the energy stayed up. Briercrest came up with great defensive plays but was unable to pull ahead near the end resulting in SAIT winning the first set 25-22.

The second set started off strong for both teams. With a close set and both teams battling, Briercrest started to pull ahead 11-9 making SAIT call timeout. Briercrest kept pushing through keeping the lead throughout. With their new momentum, Briercrest came out winning the second set 25-17.

SAIT came into the third set reenergized and taking an early lead. With SAIT leading 16-10 Briercrest called a time out. Coming back ready, Briercrest was able to rally back making it a close set. Unable to take the lead, Briercrest fell behind again and lost 25-21.

SAIT carried their momentum to the third set and took the lead early. Briercrest chipped away at the score but soon fell behind again. Wanting to move forward, Briercrest came back again to make it close game. Briercrest then pulled ahead making it a 17-14 lead making SAIT call timeout. SAIT rallied back making it a long, intense fourth set. Briercrest was able to push through and stay alive by winning the fourth set 32-30.

Briercrest came into the fifth set strong and took an early lead of 7-3, causing SAIT to take a timeout. SAIT came back ready and closed the lead to make it a close set. Briercrest fell to SAIT 16-14 giving SAIT the game win.

Player of the Game was awarded to Taylor Klassen by alumni Cody Quiring.  Klassen had a one assist, and a team high of 17 digs and a game high of 26 kills. Carter Reimer had a game high of 45 assists. Brad Harms had a game high of four service aces and Joel Rosewarn had a game high of two blocks.

Briercrest and SAIT were very close in the stats with Bricrest having 52-46 for assists and eight-three service aces. SAIT had 59-57 for kills, 89-82 for digs. Both teams had five blocks.
