After a year away from his home province, Saskatoon, SK native Mitchell Erickson will be returning to Saskatchewan to suit up for the Briercrest College men’s volleyball team for the 2015-16 season.

The Centennial Collegiate product competed for Columbia Bible College in the PACWest conference of the CCAA last year, where he garnered accolades by being selected to the 2014-15 PACWest men’s volleyball All-Rookie Team.

The 6’3” left side comes with a strong background of success, both individually and from a team perspective, in both volleyball and basketball.

“I began playing volleyball in Grade 9 for the Jeff’s Crestwear Volleyball Club (JCVC),” he said. “Our team won provincials three times. Our team also finished ninth in the country in U15 and U17, and finished tied for fifth in the country in U14 and U16.”

Erickson graduated with honours from Centennial in 2014, where he attended high school from Grade 9 to 12. He was named MVP of the senior boys volleyball team in Grades 10, 11 and 12, while also being named Grade 10 male Athlete of the Year, senior boys basketball Rookie of the Year in Grade 11 and senior boys basketball MVP in Grade 12.

Men’s volleyball head coach Nigel Mullan is excited for what Erickson will bring to the men’s volleyball team this fall.

“We are excited to have Mitch join our program this year,” Mullan said.  “He has been attending our volleyball camp for years and we were hopeful that we would get a chance to work with him one day.  His technical and athletic ability is heightened by his character that he demonstrates to care for those around him.  I believe he will make a great teammate and I am look forward to see the contributions he makes to our program.”

Erickson is excited to be moving back to his home province to continue his studies and volleyball career.

“I will be taking Business courses at Briercrest,” he explained. “I am looking forward to the new season of volleyball, with a new school and new group of guys. I really enjoy watching and playing sports; my favorite team is the Edmonton Oilers.”
