This afternoon, in the final home game of the season the women’s basketball team went up against the Lethbridge Kodiaks in a highly aggressive and tense game that ended in the Kodiaks winning 85-36. Briercrest’s strongest quarter was the first and they played a tough battle as they fought against the highly ranked Lethbridge team.

Briercrest came into the game playing strong as a team and with great energy, Tracy Frimpong put up the first successful basket for Briercrest. Abby Klassen had a good sense of control when bringing the ball down the court. They had an extremely good quarter in communicating which is what helped to make their defense such a dominating factor in the game. The first quarter ended with Lethbridge up 2 points, 13-11.

The second took off with the visiting team playing a zone defense that was highly aggressive and made Briercrest play a strong mentally tough game. Amy Wanvig remained a constant source of encouragement for the team both verbally and through rebounds. The second, not quite as strong as the first finished with Lethbridge still up 36-13.

Briercrest played strong defense this game and Frimpong continued to make her unpredictable shots and drives to the net in an impressive manner. Hannah Klassen put up a 3-point shot just moments before the shot clock went out and successfully made it. The third quarter ended 59-26 for the Kodiaks.

The final quarter was not the best played by the Clippers and the defense of the Kodiaks pursued in its aggression. Hannah Klassen put in her second 3-point shot of the game with her extremely quick ability to do so. Brooke Olmstead in her last home game for Briercrest persevered with her speed and ball handling skills.

The Player of the Game for the Lethbridge Kodiaks was Sunder West and for Briercrest was Brooke Olmstead with 2 steals, 2 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 points. Hannah Klassen had 8 points for Briercrest, Amy Wanvig had 8 rebounds for the team and Tracy Frimpong had 8 points and 3 rebounds.
