Second-year student-athlete brings a desire to win

Jon Phillips – 1st Year - #7 – Libero – Caron, SK – General Studies

This second-year student-athlete hails from small town Caron, Saskatchewan, a 5 minute drive from Briercrest College. Jon Phillips brings a desire to win with his energy and passion for the game of volleyball and the school of Briercrest. From an early age, Phillips has been a volleyball fanatic; playing as much indoor and beach volleyball as possible, he continually grew a large love for the game of volleyball. Phillips, entering his 1st year of eligibility, 2nd year academics, takes the game week-by-week. Wanting to work on the littlest of details to make his overall game better, Phillips has a mindset to succeed.

“Jon is one of the most enthusiastic players I have seen, his drive to succeed is very high and it allows him to focus on the little details in practice” says assistant coach, Quiring. “Phillips continues to strive forward in his game each week, as he continues to develop his game as a libero.”

While his career at Briercrest has been relatively short, Phillips has many highlights: the team trip to Arizona in his 1st year with the team, as well as the chance to host the CCAA Nationals in front of Briercrest’s amazing home crowd. He hopes to make some more great memories as he contributes to Briercrest in the home stretch of the season.

Look for Phillips to turn some heads in the ACAC as his presence in the back court for the Briercrest men’s team grows stronger in the last push of the 2015 campaign.
