Lundquist brings encouragement and leadership to women’s volleyball team

Amanda Lundquist’s competitive nature, and aggressive play have been a huge part of the success of Briercrest women’s volleyball team this season. The fourth-year setter is finishing her applied linguistics degree in the TESOL program, and aspires to be an ESL teacher. Lundquist was drawn to Briercrest by the quality of education offered in the TESOL program.

She has had many memorable moments in her time at Briercrest, which makes it hard to pick only one.

“I have met so many great people (including my fiancé), and I have had so many opportunities to pursue my goals, such as doing my teaching internship in China.”

Working hard to maintain grades, and continually improving her play on the court is something that Lundquist strives for.

“As a student, I want to put my best effort forward and learn as much as I can about the TESOL field, how to study the Bible, and how to grow as a person. I feel that the staff at this institution facilitate my goals which I am very thankful for,” she explained. “ As an athlete I want to keep pushing myself so that I can continue to improve.”

Lundquist feels that the volleyball team here at Briercerst is unique and feels blessed to be able to be a part of the program.

“The whole team is so supportive, encouraging, and genuinely interested in each other’s well being. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls.”

Lundquist invests a lot of time to the team, and contributes greatly to bringing the team together as a family. She feels invested in her teammates and holds a great deal of trust in them both on and off the court.

When asked about her greatest strength Lundquist replied, “I feel that I am a good encourager and I get really excited when one of them does something amazing.”

Once her time at Briercrest comes to an end, Lundquist hopes to work as an ESL teacher in a high school and possibly teach some gym classes on the side.

“I would also like to continue to play beach volleyball in the summers since it’s my favourite sport” she concludes.
