Briercrest men’s basketball played the Olds College Broncos this evening and fought hard but did not receive a win with a final score of 107-58. Briercrest had many great moments and players had high stats, the game for tomorrow will certainly be an interesting one!

The first quarter of the game began with a lot of good movement with the basketball and Brandon Friesen was the first of the Clippers to go on the scoreboard. The teams both played strong defense, the home team was simply unable to finish their shots this quarter. The final score of the quarter with the Broncos ahead was 34-6.

Briercrest played with a higher sense of urgency at the start of the second and Friesen and Josh Tippe worked well in forcing the opposition to foul and get them some more points on the board. Josh Klassen played a great quarter with many offensive rebounds. Ryan Penner used his size to his advantage to drive to the net with success several times. The first half finished off with a final score of 61-28 for the Broncos.

The defensive game of Briercrest had great improvement from the last quarter, as did the overall intensity of the game. Theo Block had an overall positive quarter with a steal, a couple foul shots and great control of the ball. Taran Garchinski hit his third three of the game in this quarter as well as another one by Jared Wicks. Final score of the third was 86-46 for Olds.

Nearing the end of the game the Clippers continued to battle for the win but were unable to finish the game as hoped. The home team improved in their willingness to not quit as the game went along but unfortunately did not come out with their best results of the season with the final score being 107-58 for the Broncos.

The Player of the Game for Olds College was number Kaleel Faiz and for Briercrest was Brandon Friesen with a team high 18 points, 6 rebounds, and one block to go with one assist. Other Briercrest players to mention include Taran Garchinski with 9 points and 6 rebounds and Josh Tippe with 6 rebounds and 3 points.
