The Briercrest women’s basketball team played an exceptional game that left the fans on edge against the Olds College Broncos. With a final score of 90-66 in favor of Olds College that doesn’t take away the fact that the team played incredibly well after a challenging week.

The first quarter started off with both teams coming in hard, the Broncos received the first points of the game and Briercrest’s Amy Wanvig came back quickly and hit two foul shots to make the first few points for the Clippers. Briercrest played strong defense and drew in the fouls, keeping the score at 24-13 for Olds.

Briercrest came back harder than before with Lauren Janzen fighting hard for points and playing great defense. After a technical by Olds the Clippers came out of it with two points from Wanvig and then Tracy Frimpong hit a three followed quickly by two more for Briercrest. The final score was in favour of Olds with 46-34.

With points from Brittany Boschman, Brooke Olmstead and Janzen quickly in the third quarter the lead held by the Broncos came down faster than anticipated. Frimpong added to the scoreboard significantly and Marisa Hartman closed the gap within three points before a brief time-out was called. Briercrest was able to play exceptionally well together and finished the third just a bit behind the Broncos with the score 64-53.

Briercrest came out of every time out with energy and success, Hannah Klassen assisted Boschman for a two after just grabbing the ball before the Broncos could take it to the other end. The home team played fantastic defense and pressured the guests which caused a lot of grief. The Broncos won the game with a final score of 90-66.
