Briercrest Announces New Authorized Degrees (Press Release)

BRIERCREST LAUNCHES NEW AUTHORIZED BA DEGREES IN ENGLISH AND HISTORY

Minister of Advanced Education Kevin Doherty announced today that Briercrest College and Seminary has received authorization to grant Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and History.

“We’re thrilled to add degrees in History and English to the 80 years Briercrest has provided Canada with premium Christian education,” said President of Briercrest College and Seminary, Dr. Michael B. Pawelke. “We applaud the Ministry of Advanced Education’s work in moving Saskatchewan forward and recognizing Briercrest’s important contribution in providing excellent options alongside our universities.”

In 2013, the government of Saskatchewan granted Briercrest authorization to provide a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, the first time authorization had been given to an institution outside of the province’s two universities. The Saskatchewan Higher Education Quality Assurance Board (SHEQAB) conducts a rigorous review of applications for new degree granting programs before they are considered for approval.

“I’m pleased that Briercrest has been approved to deliver two new programs to its students,” said Doherty. “Our government places a high priority on providing Saskatchewan’s learners with quality post-secondary education that will enable them to succeed in the labour market and pursue further studies.”

These new degrees will offer well-rounded education with a variety of courses in theology, philosophy, and social sciences. The first intake of students for the new BA English, BA English (Honours), BA History, and BA History (Honours) will be in the fall of 2015.
