Basketball

The Briercrest basketball teams will tip-off the second half of the ACAC season as they travel to Medicine Hat this weekend.

Both Briercrest teams are looking to begin the winter semester on a winning note to make a good second half drive. The men are led by Ryan Penner (2nd; Winkler, MB; Business Administration) who is fifth in the ACAC South with 15.30 points/game and the women are led by Amy Wanvig (2nd; Calgary, AB; Applied Linguistics).

On the men's side, MHC sits in third place in the ACAC South (8-4), while Briercrest is in sixth with a 1-11 record. On the women's side Briercrest (0-12) sits in seventh place and MHC is holding down the fourth and final playoff spot with a 5-7 record.

Hockey

Another important weekend is ahead for the Briercrest hockey team as they face-off against Red Deer College this weekend. This is an important weekend for Briercrest as they currently sit in eighth place in the ACAC (3-16-1), six points back of the last playoff spot that is currently held by Red Deer (8-9-1). Briercrest will be led by rookie centre Aaron Armstrong who currently sits tied for third in the ACAC for goals with 10 and fourth in points with 23.

Game times at the Penhold Arena will be 7:00 pm Friday, Jan. 16 and 1:30 pm Saturday, Jan. 17.

Volleyball

The Briercrest volleyball teams continue the second half off the second semester of ACAC competition this weekend as they travel to Lethbridge College.

This is another big weekend for the men's volleyball team (7-7) as they look to move into a playoff position in the tight ACAC South Division. The top four teams in the division qualify for the playoffs and Briercrest currently sits in a tie with SAIT for fourth place (SAIT has two game in hand), and one win behind CCAA 15-ranked Lethbridge. Splitting ACAC second ranked and CCAA 8th ranked Medicine Hat College this past weekend helped their case, but they can now maintain their own destiny as they drive to make the playoffs.

The CCAA nationally sixth ranked Briercrest women's volleyball team continues to be tied with Red Deer College for first in the ACAC with a record of 13-1. They will play against a young Lethbridge team (3-11) that currently sits outside of the playoff in fifth in the ACAC South division..

Game times in Lethbridge will be Friday, Jan. 16 at 6:00 pm for the women followed by 8:00 pm for the men and Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1:00 pm for the women and 3:00 pm for the men.
