Women's volleyball ranked 8th in Canada

The Briercrest College women’s volleyball team is ranked 8th nationally in the initial CCAA rankings of the 2014-15 season.

Three weeks into the 2014-15 season, the Briercrest women’s volleyball team has a record of 5-1, with their only defeat coming against the defending CCAA national champion Red Deer College. Red Deer currently ranks first in the CCAA and third in the ACAC South division with their only loss coming against Briercrest.

Briercrest currently sits atop the ACAC South division standings, with undefeated and CCAA 4th ranked Olds College sitting in second place. The final ACAC institution in the CCAA ranking is ACAC North division's NAIT at 13th.

The 8th place ranking is the highest that the Briercrest women’s volleyball team has been ranked since head coach Nolan Weinmaster took the helm for the 2006-07 season.

Briercrest swept ACAC South fourth ranked SAIT, prior to their split with Red Deer, and most recently swept ACAC South fifth ranked Ambrose University. Briercrest has only dropped four sets this season (winning 16), and rank first in the ACAC South division in kills/set, assists/set and service aces/set, while ranking fourth in blocks/set. They are led by second-year outside hitter Samantha Zacharias (ranked first in the ACAC South with 4.1 kills/set and second with 1.0 service aces/set), Amanda Lundquist (first with 8.9 assists/set), Mikayla Reinhardt (ranked third with 3.3 kills/set) and Whitney Zylstra (third with 0.9 service aces/set and fifth with 0.6 blocks/set).
