Briercrest hosted SAIT for a rematch after a captivating Friday ACAC 2014-15 home opening game. The first set started off with SAIT gaining the first point. After SAIT built a 3-5 lead Briercrest pressed forward to try to even the score. Briercrest called a time out at 4-10 for SAIT hoping to compel forward. The match continued to be stimulating as Briercrest contributed to the action to get the score close on the scoreboard, cutting the score to 12-14 for SAIT. Briercrest and SAIT tied the score 18-18 nearing the end of the first match making it fascinating for the crowd and a close called game. SAIT called a time out as Briercrest scrimmaged hard and passed SAIT, 22-19. Briercrest achieved the first set with a close score of 25-21.

The second set began with Briercrest on fire, pulling ahead 4-0. SAIT took a desperate time out as Briercrest proved to keep the lead. Briercrest, strong-willed to take another set kept the lead up with 11-3, forcing SAIT to call another time out. With Briercrest holding a 13-5 lead, Briercrest continued to grow momentum in the second set. Briercrest stayed in the lead to 20-11 near the end of the second set. Briercrest called a timeout at 20-14 for Briercrest. Briercrest ended the second set 25-14 with a powerful finish.

The third set began with a tie at 4-4. Briercrest called a time out with SAIT in the lead 6-4. Briercrest caught up before SAIT still pushing forward 10-8. Briercrest eagerly tied up the score 11-11. Back and forth both men’s volleyball teams battled to defeat the other in the third set. The score was tied 13-13 making the match fascinating and exciting to watch for the crowd.  Consistently, both teams kept the scoreboard tied. Briercrest, anxious to take the third set to claim victory glided forward.  Briercrest took a time out as SAIT slid ahead 21-19. The match stayed thrilling as Briercrest, was not far behind 24-21 for SAIT. SAIT called a timeout at 23-24 for SAIT. Briercrest changed the by taking the next two points and taking a 25-24 lead. Briercrest claimed triumph at 28-26 against the SAIT Trojans for the 3-0 (25-21,25-14,28-26) victory.

Jachin Karg took player of the game honours for Briercrest with a game high 13 kills and two service aces to go with 6 digs and two blocks contributing to the competitive match. His steady plays and hard work contributed greatly to the game.

Other Briercrest leaders were Carter Reimer with a game high 27 assists, Jonathan Phillips with nine digs and Josh Wendel with a game high three blocks.

Briercrest won in every area of the game; 31-28 kills, 28-27 assists, 5-4 service aces, 38-35 digs, and 11-6 blocks.

Briercrest’s next game is against Red Deer College Friday, October 24 at 8:00 pm.
