In the home opener for the Briercrest women’s volleyball team the Briercrest student body gathered to watch the Briercrest Clippers take on the SAIT Trojans.  

It was an intriguing match. With the home advantage, Briercrest took the lead in the first set 25-20. The women started strong, spirited, and ready to face SAIT.

Entering into the second set Briercrest continued to play with full energy winning 25-15.

Briercrest took on SAIT strong to start the third set with hard hits and tremendous digs. SAIT caught up half way through third but Briercrest built the lead back up to 18-12.

With a 25-18 third set win, Briercrest won the match 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) to begin the 2014-15 season on a winning note.

With a game high ten digs, to go with eight kills and two service aces Mikayla Reinhardt was crowned player of the game for Briercrest.

Reinhardt lifted Briercrest with great sportsman-like character, determined dives and amazing saves. Samantha Zacharias’s powerful plays also contributed to the Briercrest win with a game high eleven kills and four service aces to go with her six digs and a block. Erin Anderson led Briercrest with a game high two blocks and Abbi Robinson had 10 digs. Briercrest won every aspect of the game with a total of 33 kills, 29 assists, 42 digs and three blocks to SAIT’s 23, 13, 37 and one respectively.

Briercrest’s next game is against SAIT Saturday, October 18 at 1:00 pm.
