Emerald Park’s Kathleen Bruce looks to follow in the footsteps of her sister and cousins as she joins the Briercrest women’s volleyball team this fall.

The middle hitter is the sister of Rebecca Bruce and cousin of Kayla Bruce, who both played at Briercrest for two seasons from 2008-2010. She is also the cousin of Chantal Bruce who played for the team during the 2011-12 season.

Briercrest women’s volleyball head coach Nolan Weinmaster is excited to have another Bruce join the fold.

“I am excited to have another Bruce following in the footsteps of her older sister and cousins!” Weinmaster said. “Kathleen will bring the same great character, intensity and drive as Rebecca, Kayla and Chantal have all brought to our program and she has an explosive arm, good speed, and solid ball control to go with it. She will raise the intensity of everyone around her on the team in both practice and matches. I have seen her improve a great deal in the last few years and am really looking forward to watching her continue to elevate her game at the next level!”

Bruce began playing volleyball at Greenall School in Balgonie, SK in Grade six and has continued to develop since.

“I have played on my school team, as well as three other club teams, RVC Flames, CVC Cougars, and QCVC Royals,” Bruce said. “I have played left side, right side, and middle. One of my highlights in volleyball was when I was in Grade 11. My senior high school team was silver medalists in the 2012 SHSAA 5A provincials that year.”

Bruce is looking forward to the whole Briercrest experience awaiting her.

“Not only am I excited to be the fourth Bruce to play for Nolan, but I get to continue my walk with God and learn more about him.”
