Briercrest men’s basketball season ends with loss to Grant MacEwan

The Briercrest College and Seminary men’s basketball team’s season ends with loss to number two seed Grant MacEwan 93-79 Saturday afternoon. The ACAC Championships are being hosted at Red Deer College this weekend.

A deeper Grant MacEwan team who had 10 players in double digits in playing time wore down Briercrest after falling behind 21-19 after the first quarter. Grant MacEwan won every quarter after surpassing Briercrest in the second.

Briercrest leaders were Josiah Cockrill who had a team high 17 point, Brandon Friesen with a team high eight rebounds, and James Wohlgeschaffen with a game high eight assists.

Grant MacEwan held the edge in every statistical category (53-47 rebounding, 22-20 assists and 12-7 steals), except for from beyond the three-point arc, where Briercrest hit 14 to Grant MacEwan’s 11 and free-throws where Briercrest hit 17-22 compared to 10-15 for Grant MacEwan.
