Serving was a highlight in Briercrest’s second sweep this weekend against the Broncos to wrap up regular season play.
Amanda Lundquist opened the first set serving up 5-0 for Briercrest, two of those aces. Similar to last night, serving was a factor in the scoring. In addition to Lundquist, Elly Wendel, Starlet Peterson and Samantha Zacharias’ aces highlighted the set. Briercrest blazed towards the goal, commanding the first set 25-13.

The second set opened much like the first with Zacharias scoring multiple aces in her steak of five before Olds got a swing at the points, 6-1, Briercrest. Erin Anderson followed a similar serving run, two of them net serves that dropped over, catching Olds by surprise, resulting in two aces, Briercrest up 12-2.  Briercrest continued forging ahead and younger Clippers Brooklyn Dyck, Deanna Wall, Abbi Robinson, Regan Kooyman finished off the set, ending 25-11, Briercrest on top.

Wendel’s serving run of six early on in the third set was a highlight, especially with multiple aces, Olds unable to return. Starlet Peterson had a serving run much the same, Briercrest coming up 14-6. Olds made some gains on Briercrest’s lead, nearly closing in 21-19, before Briercrest regained command to wrap up the set, 25-21.

Sage Fahlman was Olds’ player of the game with one block, five digs, and two kills and Elly Wendel of Briercrest with two blocks, 12 digs, five aces and eight kills.

Briercrest dominated with 33 kills to Olds’ 13. Briercrest had 18 aces and Olds had 2. Briercrest had 57 digs and Olds had 38.
