Court-savvy point guard Caleb Klassen returns to the Briercrest men’s basketball team and is bringing along his trademark athleticism and wealth of experience.

Klassen, who is a currently in his fifth year of the BA biblical studies program, comes to Briercrest from Abbotsford, British Columbia.

As a freshman Klassen arrived on campus to play basketball at the college level before taking a year off from his studies in 2010.

“By the grace of God I was led back with a passion to study the Word of God,” Klassen explained.

He returned in 2011 to play for the Clippers campaign and was a crucial member of last season’s nationally ranked team.

Among many great memories made here at Briercrest, Klassen’s favorite moment was when he had the opportunity to baptize one of his best friends.

He added that the friendships he’s made as a student at Briercrest, and the unique family atmosphere within the Briercrest athletics program is a major part of what makes playing here so special.

“Our team is special chiefly because of the family environment that is fostered here. In every sense of the word our 2014 Briercrest Clipper team is a family. We are a band of brothers,” he said.

Along with his veteran presence, Klassen has much to offer his teammates this season.

“My biggest strength is my love of Scripture. I bring leadership to the team and hopefully a humility that is birthed from my time spent in prayer and the study of God's Word,” Klassen explained.

After graduation Caleb is coming back to Briercrest as a public representative and a part-time seminary student.

“Eventually I intend to finish my Masters Degree and pursue a ministry in which I teach and preach the Word of God. Wherever that leads me remains comfortably in the hands of my God and King, Jesus Messiah,” he said.
