Five years later, Acuna continues to grow and serve

Hailing from San Jose, Costa Rica Pablo Acuna isn’t a homegrown farm boy from Saskatchewan.

Since making his way to Briercrest five years ago, Acuna has graduated with a business administration degree with accounting concentration, started his first year of a masters of divinity degree in leadership and management, and has been a significant contributor to the success of the men’s volleyball team.

Acuna made his way to Briercrest after an AIA volleyball tour in Costa Rica. It was here Steve Nash, Briercrest Alumni, played against Acuna and later told Briercrest men’s volleyball head coach Nigel Mullan about a possible recruit.

“Pabs” is a libero on the volleyball team and is someone who brings great ball control skills.

Throughout the five years, there have been plenty of great memories for Acuna.

Some of the highlights have been going to nationals in hissecond year,, making great friends, and hosting provincials last year where the Briercrest made the gym electric.

“What makes this team special is that we are united by a bond in Christ”,  Acuna said as he explains how their faith makes tough times easier and encourages them to invest and serve each other in unselfish ways.

Acuna really enjoys the great team unity they have, and he is working hard towards his goals of winning the ACAC and CCAA championships.

But it doesn’t end there for Acuna as he genuinely wants to serve his teammates and the men’s volleyball program in the future.

John 14:1- Let not your heart be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me- has been a real encouragement to Acuna and will continue to be in the future.

Acuna hopes to start a coaching career and use his business degree when he leaves Briercrest. However, for now, Acuna will continue to bring his experience, focus and work ethic to help the team reap a harvest.
