Consecutive 3-0 sweep for Briercrest

The Briercrest women’s volleyball team pulled off another clean sweep against NAIT , winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 27-25).

The first set was tight scoring, Briercrest putting up big blocks and coming back hitting hard. Briercrest pulled ahead 17-14 before NAIT took a time out. Unfazed, Briercrest continued to surge ahead, relaxed and confident, reaching 22-17 before NAIT called another time out. The remaining points came quick and Briercrest claimed the first set, 25-18.

Briercrest took early command of the second set, gaining a comfortable 9-4 lead before NAIT called a time out. They came out closing in on the Clippers 15-15. NAIT enjoyed a short 17-16 lead before Elly Wendel’s serving reignited the earlier momentum, bringing Briercrest back into the lead 20-17. NAIT came back swinging but Briercrest made some incredible saves and a huge block by Wendel and Erin Anderson drew the set to a close, 25-21.

The third set was the most tight set yet, Briercrest and NAIT matching one another point for point until 14-14, when NAIT started to pull away 17-14. Briercrest called a time out after giving up four consecutive points and down 16-19, came back 20-20. The fight for the final few points was close, Briercrest up 24-22, when NAIT overtook them 26-25. Samantha Zacharias’s kill brought them 27-27 even, and a service ace following from Zacharias brought the Clippers one point shy of the game. A NAIT error gave Briercrest the set-winning point, 27-25.

Kelsey Tymkow was NAIT’s player of the game with one block, seven kills, two aces and nine digs. Brooke Peterson was Briercrest’s player of the game with 12 digs.

Briercrest plays Red Deer College at home next weekend January 24-25. The women’s games are at 6:00pm on Friday and 1:00pm on Saturday.
