Basketball

The Briercrest Men’s Basketball team will have a significantly different look to it as they begin the 2014 portion of their ACAC season at home against Concordia University College of Alberta. The Clippers said good-bye to four players as they said good-bye to 2013. Lucas Mannes who was second in the league for points per game (21.1) has moved on to play at Trinity Western University of the CIS, and Jesse Clark has left the team to pursue other personal goals. Ethan DeCock and Jason Lamb (red shirts) have also left the team. Justin Wolverton will be re-joining the team this semester and will bring added experience at guard. Taran Garchinski also joins the team this semester and Josh Tippe, Jason Wegner, Brendan Adrian and Jared Wicks have activated from being red-shirts the first semester.

Briercrest is looking ahead to this weekend’s festivities as they take on Concordia on Friday and Keyano on Saturday. Concordia comes in with a 5-4 record and are looking to stay above .500 on the season as they take on the Clippers at 6:00 PM in the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium.  The Keyano Huskies then make their way to Caronport to tussle with the Clippers at 6:00 PM on Saturday the 11th. The Huskies (6-5) and Clippers (7-3) both sit in third place in their respective divisions. The Clippers are currently ranked #11 in the CCAA National Rankings.

Women’s Basketball finished off 2013 with a 2-0 sweep of St. Mary’s University College and look to build on their winning ways as they host Concordia and Keyano on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Winnipeg's Samantha Gauthier has joined the team this semester and will bring speed and depth at the guard position.

Briercrest looks to leading scorer Amy Wanvig to lead them over 7th place Concordia (4-7) and 6th place Keyano (4-7). Games are both at 6:00 PM.

Hockey

The Briercrest Hockey team received two wins due to forfeits by Augustana and Grant McEwen which puts the Clippers at 3-15 on the season, one point behind Keyano for 8th in the league. Briercrest looks to add to their wins when they host 4th place Augustana (9-4-1-3) at the Barkman Arena at 7:00 PM on Friday and 2:00 PM on Saturday. Leading scorer Brett Lafond will try and lead Briercrest to a win to start the year off.

Branden Whitehawk returns to Briercrest this semester and Austin Rock and Taylor Epp will also be eligible to play after sitting out the fall semester.

Volleyball

Women’s Volleyball travels to Lethbridge as the lone Briercrest team hitting the road this weekend to take on the Kodiaks. Lethbridge comes into the weekend in 11th place with a 3-7 record and they host a hot Clippers team who come in tied for 3rd in the league with a 7-3 record and are ranked 11th in the nation. Briercrest will look to Elly Wendel to add to her league best 29 service aces to take two wins against the Kodiaks who allow 23.89 points per game. Games are at 6:00 PM on Friday and 1:00 PM on Saturday.

Men’s Volleyball has a bye week as Lethbridge College’s men’s volleyball team forfeited from ACAC play this year. The Clippers are on fire by winning their last 4 matches, bringing their record to 5-5 on the year, and still sit 14th in the national rankings.
