Penalty filled game leaves Briercrest with 6-3 loss
The Briercrest hockey team came out red hot in the 1st period. Just 1:15 into the period the Clippers opened the scoring up with a wonderful shot by #19 Stephen Langford, assisted by #22 Brett Lafond and #11 Josh Anderson. Mid-way through the 1st a broken pass up the middle sparked #4 Ricky Seidel who took on two defenders and snapped one home to put Briercrest up 2-0. Just over two minutes later Seidel who was on fire all game made a quick pass into the slot leaving #17 Manuel Schellenberg open to go top shelf, glove side. Briercrest ended the period with a 3-0 lead and ready to reclaim their territory. This was the first time the Barkman Arena has seen such a substantial lead in the 1st period in quite some time and the fans were ecstatic to see the Clippers doing so well.
Momentum was lost as the Briercrest hockey team took the ice in the second period. A minute and forty seconds into the 2nd period Keyano was able to get their first of the game after the referees made some calls that put Briercrest in the box for the first two minutes of the period. The Huskies were unfortunately able to get another pair of goals to tie up the game at 6:05 and 12:28 of the 2nd period. Briercrest looked to turn up the heat again in the 3rd with hopes of staying out of the penalty box which clearly set them back throughout the 1st and 2nd period.
The last period was full of more penalties that left the Briercrest hockey team in the penalty box for much of the period. The Huskies were able to capitalize throughout the period and scored two within the first six minutes of the period. An unlucky boarding call on #3 Josh Dufresne put the Huskies back on the power play with 9:32 left in the 3rd. Keyano once again made the best of the opportunity and scored their sixth goal one minute into their power play. The penalties just kept on flowing leaving Briercrest gasping for air. Final score 6-3 for the Keyano Huskies. Shots on net Keyano-60, Briercrest-25.
Players of the game: Briercrest #4 Ricky Seidel 1 goal and 1 assist, Keyano #65 with 3 goals and 1 assist.
