Volleyball and hockey hit the road this weekend while basketball teams rest

The Briercrest volleyball teams travel to Calgary to face SAIT this weekend, hockey travels to Red Deer and the basketball teams enjoy the beginning of two bye weeks.

Volleyball

After the Home Opener weekend where the Briercrest volleyball teams won three of four games against Medicine Hat College they now travel to face SAIT in Calgary this weekend.

Briercrest women's volleyball has started the year strong, with a record of 3-1 and face a SAIT team who are looking for their first win of the season. SAIT can not be taken lightly though, as they have faced two of the top teams in the country in Grant Macewan and Grande Prairie, This weekend should show where each team fits in the standings this year.

Though starting the season with a 1-3 record, Briercrest men's volleyball has been ranked 13 in the CCAA National rankings this week. They will be facing a SAIT team that has been ranked fourth in those same rankings, with a record of 2-2. This will be a huge weekend for both teams as they try to prove that they belong in the elite in the nation.

The women open up the weekend against SAIT Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm. The weekend continues  on Saturday, Nov. 9 with the women tipping-off at 1:00 pm, followed by the men at 3:00 pm.

Hockey

After a bye week the Briercrest hockey team will head to Red Deer College this weekend to see what the newest addition to the ACAC has to offer.

Though in their first season in the ACAC, Red Deer will be a stiff test for Briercrest this weekend. Red Deer currently sits in second place in the ACAC, with a record of 8-3. Briercrest will need to play a tight game as they seek for their first win of the season, as Red Deer has been among the stingiest in the league for goals allowed this year.

Game times will be 7:15 pm on Friday, Nov. 8 and 1:30 pm Saturday, Nov. 9. Both games will be played at the Penhold Arena in Penhold.

Basketball

After a busy start to the 2013-14 season, the Briercrest basketball teams will be enjoying the first of two straight bye weekends. This will be important as both teams are hoping to get some extra health as thye look to finish the second half of the semester strong.

Men's Basketball has been ranked as the tenth best team in the recent CCAA National men's basketball rankings for their strong 4-2 start to the season.
