Basketball hosts Lethbridge for Home Opener and alumni weekend, hockey travels to Grant MacEwan, vol

The Briercrest basketball teams host Lethbridge College this weekend for their 2013-14 Home and Season Opening weekend. This weekend is also Basketball Alumni weekend. Men's hockey travels to Edmonton to face Grant MacEwan University, women's volleyball hosts Medicine Hat Thursday evening and men's volleyball travels to the University of Regina Friday evening. Basketball

After a successful pre-season on the road, the Briercrest Basketball teams will open their season at the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium this weekend against Lethbridge College. This weekend will not only serve as the Home and Season Opening weekend. but will also serve as the Briercrest Basketball Alumni weekend.

The women open up the weekend Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 pm, followed by the men at 8:00 pm. The weekend continues on Saturday, Oct. 19 with the women tipping-off at 1:00 pm, followed by the men at 3:00 pm.

This will be an exciting weekend as both women's teams have improved during the off-season and the men's teams last faced each other in the 2012-13 ACAC bronze medal game, with Briercrest prevailing.

Hockey

Coming off a weekend where Briercrest was able to keep the score tight for half a game before the defending ACAC champion NAIT Ook's experience took over, they will now travel to Grant MacEwan to play the team that is just above them in the standings.

Grant MacEwan (1-3) have only scored 12 goals this season and have allowed the third most goals in the ACAC thus far.

Game times are 8:15 pm Friday, Oct . 18 and 3:15 pm Saturday, Oct. 19. Both games will be played at the Bill Hunter Arena
(9200 - 163 St.) and can be viewed on SportsCanada.tv.

Volleyball

Briercrest women’s volleyball will conclude their pre-season by hosting Medicine Hat College Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium at 6:30 pm. The game will be streamed on SportsCanada.tv.

The Briercrest men's volleyball team will conclude their pre-season by travelling down the road to face the University of Regina at 7:00 pm on Oct. 18.

This will be the last taste of pre-season action before the volleyball teams open their season on the road at Grant MacEwan University Oct. 25-26.
