Briercrest Sports Camps once again a resounding success
By Jadon Frank
After a summer away from the Margaret P. Reimer Memorial Gymnasium due to flooring renovations, the “Hanger” was once again the venue of excited and happy Briercrest Sports Camp campers for three weeks this summer. All three camps saw an increase in participation from the year prior. There was much learning and growth, both on the court as well as in the mental and spiritual aspects of life and sport.
Briercrest Sports Camps kicked off with girls’ basketball July 21-26, which saw an increase in participation to 48 girls
"It was great being on our new court this summer,” girls’ basketball camp director Chad Romanuk said. “Girls’ basketball camp went well this year. Over half of the girls were first time campers, which is exciting because this brings on a whole new era for Briercrest camps."
The next camp was boys’ basketball which ran July 28-August 2. This camp also saw an increase in attendance to 64 boys.
“The 35th Annual Briercrest Clippers Boys Basketball Camp was a big success with campers enjoying great skill development and competition throughout the week,” boys’ basketball camp director Rod Adrian said. “A group of quality coaches who love basketball led the way and Dan Gabor challenged all our minds and hearts in our evening program.”
The final Briercrest Sports Camp of 2013 was volleyball, August 4-9, which had 78 co-ed campers registered between the ages of 12 and 18.
“It was great to see the Lord at work in the lives of our staff and campers at volleyball camp this past week,” volleyball camp Director Nolan Weinmaster said. “Praise the Lord for the record attendance at volleyball camp, it was the most we have ever had attend volleyball camp! There were also some bright prospects for future college players for both the men’s and women’s teams, so that was exciting to see as well!”
“Praise the Lord for a good camp season and we are looking forward to an excellent year ahead for Briercrest Athletics and we want all of you to be a part of the excitement!”
