The Briercrest College & Seminary Athletic Department would like to extend its condolences to the family of Namand Payne, after his vigilant fight with brain cancer ended on July 11, 2013 at the age of 37.

A Celebration of Namand’s Life was held at Gateway Family Church in Leduc on July 18th at 10 a.m.  He leaves to cherish his memory, Gina, his loving wife of 10 years, and his three wonderful children, Tayvien 8, Brooklyn 6, and Tyreece 5, as well as an entire community of family and friends.

Payne played for the Briercrest men’s basketball team from 1995-97, leading the team with 14.4 points per game in their inaugural 1996-97 season in the ACAC. Leading the team to a 12-8 record, prior to the 2012-13 team, this was the most successful team that Briercrest produced in the ACAC.

After Briercrest he returned to his hometown of Leduc, where he had been a star high school basketball player, and entered the business world.

John McMullen wrote in a submission to the Pipestone Flyer, “Namand Payne leaves us a legacy of honour, devotion, caring, and a steadfast faith that transcends the ages and defies even death. In our grief, let us be reminded that the best way to honour him would be to carry forward in the things that mattered most to him.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Children's Trust Fund established at any TD Bank location BN 8844 Acct #6375603.
