Dr. Gordon Swenson
Dr. Gordon Swenson, 63, of Sarasota, Florida.
Sep.17, 1949- Nov.17, 2012
Dr. Gordon Swenson passed away suddenly on November 17, 2012, much to the surprise and sadness of all his friends, for Gordon had always been such a healthy and vibrant person.
Gordon Swenson practiced chiropractic medicine here in Sarasota for over 24 years. He was beloved by hundreds of patients and friends in the United States and Canada.
Gordon was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the son of the Rev. Orville and Clara Swenson. His father was the director of a Bible college, so Gordon grew up in the atmosphere of young ministers in training. Gordon attended Wheaton College in Illinois and graduated from the Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia.
Gordon was known for his spiritual work at Unity Church of Sarasota where he taught classes, con-ducted study groups, and served on their board of directors.
Over a period of 18 years, Gordon ran several different Men's Groups with his friends Fran Tiner and Allan Schulte. Gordon was also active with Landmark Education for many years, and studied A Course in Miracles.
Gordon was married to the late Phyllis Betz, publisher of Panache Magazine in Sarasota. They met late in life, married in 2007, and had a wonderful, but short marriage, due to Phyllis's untimely passing in 2009.
Gordon is survived by his sister, Sharon Swenson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; by a stepson, Christopher Fultz, wife Sarah; and grandson, Logan, all of Palmetto, Florida. Gordon's Intentional families in Sarasota were the Schultes - Allan, Marcia, Evan, Brooke, and her husband, David Olivieri, and the Tiners -- Fran, Laurie and Luke. He is also survived by his close friends Trisha Talone of Philadelphia and Tracy Ingram.
Gordon had a quick wit and was known for always having a good joke to share with his friends and patients. He will be missed by many for his gentle way of healing and his sunny manner.
A memorial service was held at Unity Church of Sarasota on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at 12:30 pm.
Unity Church of Sarasota is located at 3023 Proctor Rd, between Swift and Beneva.
Donations in memory of Dr. Gordon Swenson may be made to Unity Church of Sarasota, or to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.
