Volleyball teams travel to Fort McMurray and Red Deer for the ACAC Championships this weekend

The only teams in action this weekend are the volleyball teams with the men travelling to Fort McMurray and the women travel to Red Deer for the ACAC Championship tournaments. Volleyball

After an exciting weekend of game in the ACAC qualification tournament, the Briercrest women's volleyball team will be travelling to Red Deer as the eighth seed in the ACAC Championship tournament Feb. 22-24. They will take on top ranked Red Deer College Friday, Feb 22 at 6:00 pm. The winner will move on to the semi-finals against the winner of the match between Medicine Hat and NAIT the following day, Saturday, at 8:00 pm. CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship host Lakeland College and the winner of the ACAC Championships will qualify for the CCAA National Championship in Lloydminster March 7-9.

The men's volleyball team will be travelling to Fort McMurray for the ACAC Championships Feb. 22-24 as the fifth seed. They will face fourth ranked Medicine Hat at 1:00 pm on Friday, with the winner moving on to the semi-finals against the winner of King's and Red Deer at 6:00 pm on Saturday, Feb 23. Both the gold and the silver medalists at the Men's ACAC Championship will qualify for the CCAA Nationals at Niagara College March 7-9.

Basketball

Briercrest basketball concluded their 2012-13 regular season this past weekend with both teams sweepting St. Mary's University College.

Men's basketball (19-1) have clinched first place in the ACAC and maintain their CCAA number one ranking for the fourth weekend in a row. They will now have a bye weekend while the ACAC seventh to 10th ranked teams play in a qualification tournament to determine the seventh and eighth seed in the ACAC Championship hosted by Keyano College March 1-3.

Briercrest women's basketball ended with a sweep of St. Mary's to finish the season with a 5-15 record. The young team posted the best record since 2000-01, the last time Briercrest made the playoffs with an 8-12 record.

Hockey

Briercrest hockey completed their 2012-13 season this past weekend and are focusing on finishing their semester and looking towards next season.

Jesse Chenard and Mike Fischer were both recognized on Saturday night before puck drop for their contribution as graduating players. Chenard finished his career with two records (ACAC single season and career save records) while Fischer was a warrior in front of the net and in the corners during his career.
