Briercrest women’s volleyball travelled to Grande Prairie for the ACAC Championship qualifying tournament Feb. 15-16.

February 15, 2013 Briercrest defeated the King’s University College 3-1 (27-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18).

Head coach Nolan Weinmaster was proud of how his team performed.

“Praise the Lord! The girls all played very well! Erin Anderson was Player of the Game with 10 kills, 13 digs and five stuff blocks. Best total team effort we had all season so far! Couldn't be more proud of the girls and the way they executed at such a high level in the most important game of the year so far. They executed the game plan very well. We are back in the Conference championship tournament after a two year absence and I am so excited for the girls who have been through tough losses in the past couple seasons to get this opportunity! We are one step closer to an ACAC and CCAA Championship!

Tomorrow we play Grande Prairie at 1 PM to determine if we will get the 7th seed or 8th seed going into the Conference Championship tournament in Red Deer next weekend.

February 16, 2013 Briercrest lost to host Grande Prairie 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 18-25, 25-23) and will be seeded eight at the ACAC Championships next weekend in Red Deer.

Coach Weinmaster shared his thoughts on the loss.

“Brooke Peterson was Player of the Game for us today. She had 34 digs in four sets! We didn't play very well in the first two sets today -- a bit of an adrenaline hangover after the huge win last night I think,” Weinmaster said. “We just made lots of errors in the first two sets, but played much better in the last two. It was great to have Melissa Helsloot come in and do a great job turning the momentum around for us in the middle of the match. We just got going a little too late today and Grande Prairie played well. We will face Red Deer in the Conference Championship quarterfinal on Friday. We are really looking forward to it!”

Briercrest will now be travelling to Red Deer College to compete in the Elite Eight ACAC Championships Feb. 22-24. Games will be streamed online at Sportscanada.tv, and the Briercrest Volleyball facebook page.
